The John Galliano Paris Fashion Week show is NO LONGER. Originally he was supposed to show his latest collection for the house of Christian Dior on Sunday but…
The show was cancelled after it was announced he will stand trial for alleged anti-Semitic remarks made last week. He was handed his pink slip as Creative Director after a video, via The Sun, surfaced showing Galliano telling two Italian women that he doesn’t appreciate their ethnicity. “But I love Hitler,” he says. “People like you would be dead. Your mothers, your forefathers, would all be fucking gassed. You’re ugly.”
But there’s $$$ to be made- editors and buyers will be invited to see the new collection at a smaller scale presentation and NO Mr. Galliano will not be there.
The city’s prosecutor’s office said a trial could take place between April and June 2011. If guilty, Galliano could face six months in prison and fines of up to $43,000.
French law makes it a crime to incite racial hatred and as well as allegedly verbally abusing the couple, Galliano was filmed making anti-Semitic remarks during a night out in which he announced his love for Nazi leader Adolf Hitler.
Galliano, who has checked into an unnamed rehab facility, has spoken out about the incident and is regretful about his statement but says he was provoked.
“Anti-Semitism and racism have no part in our society. I unreservedly apologize for my behaviour in causing any offence. I was subjected to verbal harassment and an unprovoked assault when an individual tried to hit me with a chair having taken violent exception to my look and my clothing. For these reasons I have commenced proceedings for defamation and the threats made against me,” Galliano said.
