Vidal Sassoon, Always remembered

Today we lost a great. Not only for the beauty industry but for everyone.  Famed hairdresser and icon, Vidal Sassoon died today after a long battle with  Leukemia.

So lucky were we that Michael Gordon (founder of Bumble and Bumble) Produced a documentary on Vidal Sassoon’s life. Available on Netflix and OnDemand  (in some places)

If you haven’t had a chance to watch it I highly recommend it.  He came a long way from his childhood  in an orphanage and a Jew during WWII to the inspiration he’s become today and will continue to be for generations to come.

I personally and very sad and will miss him.  When working for Vidal Sassoon I learned about his philosophies and will always appreciate the fact that he raised the bar for hairdressers all over the world; thereby helped in gaining a respect for hairdressers as professionals and they’re craft.  He inspired so many artists that started with Sassoon training: Tony and Guy, John Paul Mitchell, Tim Harley

WTF is Lindsay Lohan?

She’s crazy!  She looks like she’s 45!  and she’s barely reached her mid 20s!

Her extensions are ridiculous!  Is it because he hair is fried and she had to cut it all off?

AND HER TEETH?  did she have and issue?  Oh yeah- I forgot about that.

I can’t get over it, so sad! WHY?  She was so cute and had talent. WHY?

See the video below:

LADY GAGA for V Magazine

sidenote: Ok, I know!  enough with the post today!  It’s my third, but it seems like lots is happening.

BACK to the real post

This month’s issue of V Magazine marks the debut of Lady GaGa as a contributing columnist. Her first piece, titled “Piet Mondrian & Library Cards”, is a two-page length prose dedicated to discussing all those who were CCed in the heading, which included the Haus of Gaga, Little Monsters, The New York Public Library, Fashion-Sexuals and The World.

Check out these quotes:

“Glam culture is ultimately rooted in obsession, and those of us who are truly devoted and loyal to the lifestyle of glamour are masters of its history.”

“I would dream of being a rock star who dressed like Mark Bloan, walked like Jerry Hall , and had the panache of Ginger from Casino and the mystery of Isabella Blow”

“Art gives birth to new art. There is no chicken or egg. It’s molecular….The past undergoes mitosis, becoming the originality of the future.”

“After weeks of writing this article I ask out loud, ‘What do you think YSL would think of my metaphor about his collection?’ My darling hair designer Frederic replied, ‘You could ask Nan Kempner, but she’s dead.’ Now there’s a queen who never left home without her library card.”

I’m always impressed by Lady Gaga- her outfit choices, her music and “living art” attitude- Good, bad and I don’t know.

Read the entire article !  I think I’m getting a new mag subscription.

I feel like some people at these things actually have talent while others are just messy. I think I’m going to go to this Hair Wars and check out the “competition” and have Effigy Salon (my salon)  compete in it next year. THE BAR NEEDS TO BE RAISED!

But for $250 and
• Salons can have no more than 10 artists back-stage for this competition
• Salons will have to provide their own models (10 total )
• Salons must not use full wigs
• Salons can use extensions and props (props will have to be cleared by Windy City Media)
• Salons are responsible for their own music and routine (5 -10 minutes)
• Salons are responsible for their own clothing or costuming (no genital nudity)

you can compete.  I think you might be late this year- but see you in 2012!
